Batavia Career and Technical Education Center Award Winners

Haylee Thornley, Batavia, $2,000
Haylee Thornley is a senior from Batavia City Schools who attends the Health Careers Academy. This active student is a member of the Zonta Club, Link Crew, Youth League, and the Genesee County Youth Leadership Program.  She is the Class Treasurer and a member of the Student Government. Haylee participates in Basketball, Soccer, the United States Bowling Academy, and the Rochester District Youth Soccer League. She has received the George H. Ball Community Achievement Award, Batavia High School Gold Award, Varsity Scholar-Athlete, and Varsity letter.  She was recently awarded the Daemen Trustee Scholar Award. She will attend Daemen College in the fall to study Physical Therapy.

Karly Smith, Oakfield-Alabama, $1,500
Karly Smith attends the Justice Academy. Her homeschool is Oakfield-Alabama.  She is involved in many activities and clubs at her home school and community, including, Math Team, Drama Club, Band, Chorus, Link Crew, Elementary Activity Nights Genesee County 4-H Horse Program, Genesee County Fair Clean-Up Crew, and Rice for Hunger.  Karly earned Student of the Month at both her home school and at the Batavia CTE Center.  She will study Psychology at Roberts Wesleyan College and hopes to become a Crisis Intervention Psychologist and work for a law enforcement agency.

Daniel Gersitz, Attica, $1,000
This Attica senior is a student in the Precision Machining Program.  Daniel will attend Alfred State College in the fall and study Machine Tool Technology.  He is a National Technical Honor Society member and has received the Group Achievement Award from the High school students United with NASA to Create Hardware (NASA HUNCH). This national program provides students with opportunities to create or build cost-effective hardware and soft goods both for use on the space station and for the training of NASA astronauts and flight controllers.  He is a member of the Attica Varsity Swim Team and the Attica Clay Dusters Gun Club.

Mount Morris Career and Technical Education Center Award Winners

JoAnna Regatuso, Mount Morris, $2,000
JoAnna is a student in the Agriculture Production Program and her home school is Mount Morris Central.  She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, National Honor Society, Drama Club, and Key Club and participates in Varsity Indoor Track.  In the fall, she will attend Morrisville State College to study Equine Science. JoAnna’s passion is working with animals and her career goal is to train horses.

Angelita Clark, Geneseo, $1,500
This Health Dimensions student is from Geneseo Central Schools. Angelita plans to attend Genesee Community College and study Nursing.  She is an honor roll student and the recipient of the Tenacious Award, along with Perfect Attendance, Student of the Month, and Leaders Award. She is currently employed at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation as an Activities Aide.  Angelita aspires to become a Nurse or a Physician’s Assistant.

Siobhan Costello, Keshequa, $1,000
Siobhan is a senior from Keshequa Central Schools who attends the Agriculture Production Program. She is a member of the Drama Club and participates in Varsity Cross Country, Track, and Basketball. She has earned many awards, including Most Valuable Player, Hardest Worker, and Team Award for Track. She is a 3-time National Collegiate Athletic Association All-Star for Basketball and the Green Hand Award recipient for FFA. Siobhan will attend Houghton College in the fall to study Equestrian Studies: Barn Management.
