Annual Fundraiser to Support Scholarships

The Mount Morris Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center will host its second annual Ag Day on April 30 from 9:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Mount Morris Career and Technical Education Center.

This event is to fund and support the John English Scholarships. English was the Animal Science Instructor at the Mount Morris CTE Center and was very instrumental in promoting animal science and agriculture education in the region. He retired recently after serving for over 35 years.

“Last year this event raised enough money to award one $1,000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships to students who are positive agricultural stewards,” said Kristin Hanggii, Animal Science Instructor. “We hope to be able to raise enough funds this year to offer the same scholarships.”

The event includes greenhouse and Agriculture Department highlights, as well as student demonstrations that begin at 9:00 a.m. The Chicken BBQ begins at 11:00 a.m. A limited number of walk-up tickets will be available for $12 per dinner.

The greenhouse sale includes a variety of hanging baskets, geraniums, vegetables, and a variety of annuals, raised by Animal Science and Agriculture Science students. Conservation students crafted planters and garden decorations that will also be for sale. Prices range from $3.50 to $30.

During this event, students will be collecting pledges for a Walk for the Wild, which will be held during the school day sometime in May. Walk for the Wild is a 5K walk to help support the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation efforts in our local community to help reestablish and develop new and existing wildlife habitats.

Mount Morris CTE Center Animal Science, Agriculture Science and Conservation students are coordinating this event with assistance from Hanggii, Jackie Jurek, Agriculture Science Instructor, and Schuyler Daughterty, Conservation Instructor.

The Mount Morris Career and Technical Education Center is located at 27 Lackawanna Ave, Mount Morris, NY 14510.
